This powerful comedic monologue is by a woman who doesn’t want to be a ‘girl’. She doesn’t want to wear skirts or makeup and adjust herself to conform to obligatory femininity within society. It takes us through a journey of her life from being a young girl into an adult. It revolves around the ideas and implications of the entrenched social constructions that have been imposed on gender identity and focuses on expectations of men and women within society. The play explores both her vulnerability and her strength in being ostracized in such a society where being masculine is solely confined to males.
