Biography
Accidentally cutting a 240V cable whilst installing the emergency lighting (12v) system! Working alone in the theatre during vacation time. But there are so many fond memories, so many talented people from all backgrounds. It was also an amazing opportunity to get involved with senior University staff and lecturers on the theatre project, making decisions on how the budget was to be spent… and I was only in my early twenties.
After graduating in 1971 I was fortunate to gain a management position with Express Dairy, and had many management and project roles with them over 17 years. I left to start my own software company, which supplied Quality Systems to the dairy, brewing and food sectors, and I only sold the Company three years ago when I retired-I’m now 79. One of my significant ‘hobbies’ is running the website www.expressdairytales.uk for those interested in the history of the Company and the dairy sector generally-I travel all over the UK visiting dairy and creamery sites and collecting information and stories for publication.
Involved with the theatre from 1967 to 1970, joining Tech Committee as a fresher and going on to manage the theatre. Did stage lighting, lighting and sound for hall parties, and lighting for the Opera (Das Liebesverbot by Richard Wagner, staged in the Great Hall of the Trent Building). Theatre Manager 1969-70, having previously been Lighting Manager on Tech Committee; initiated the renovation project that first turned the Old Engineering Workshop into a proper theatre with a new entrance, tiered seating, lighting box, stage and backstage facilities.
